The largest threats to the utilities company are blackouts caused by vegetation encroachment on power lines and power line sag which reduces the transfer of electricity and can make the power line ultimately fail. 

Lidar is the most accepted solution for utility surveying due to its efficiency and cost effectiveness.  Traditionally utility surveying has been done in fixed wing or helicopter platforms.  With the advances in lidar technology, these surveys are moving towards UAV platforms.  AGI will provide the most cost effective method to survey power lines whether it be with a fixed wing or UAV platform.  We can produce 3D model of the power line corridor and classify the Lidar data to identify features such as towers, power lines, terrain and vegetation.  With this information we can go one step further and produce a report identifying danger areas of vegetation encroachment and powerline sag.
